Recipe: Roasted Sweet Potato and Fennel Soup

Fennel. I don’t think I would’ve ever thought about trying this as a kid. It doesn’t really loook appetising….this white bulb with thin stringy leaves. The smell…even worse!
Who could like a vegetable that smells of aniseed?
I was never even game enough to try this vegetable until now… This is one vegetable [...]

Recipe: Sweet Potato Gnocchi

An idea came into my head, when I noticed the new 101 cookbook rss feed for making “gnocchi like an italian grandmother.” Why not make a sweet potato (otherwise known as kumara) version? Of course, I’ve seen versions with mushroom and others with pumpkin, but hadn’t seen this little beauty used yet!
With the [...]

3.9 kgs lost

I weighed in this morning and my workouts with diet plan have made me turn my corner I needed. I’ve lost 3.9kgs this week and back in the right direction!
It’s been a pretty eventful week and I’m glad my diet wasn’t affected by this!
I will be planning on making some sweet potato gnocchi tonight [...]

cool runnings

So, thought I’d write a quick post showing my exercise tonight. I’m proud because I pushed myself through and did not only my back routine at the gym tonight, but five minutes of running and then cycling before running home in the freezing cold.
My legs were frozen by the time I got home and [...]

Recipe: vegetarian sweet and sour soup

I’ve been struck down with a cold and decided to order this sweet little number yesterday at Enlightened Cuisine, a vegetarian restaurant in South Melbourne. Upon eating this, my nose has cleared up and I felt so, so comforted that I needed to try and replicate this last night for today’s bento.
After researching the [...]

the weight has piled on

I headed onto the scales today as it’s something I’ve been dreading…I knew I’d put some weight on and wasn’t too surprised at the result.
I’m not sure why I stopped being so serious with my weight loss and getting fit? What made me stop? Why do I not have the same motivation as before?
I’m [...]

gold coast long weekend

I’ve been away, but will be coming up with some new recipes shortly. Gold Coast is very over-commercialised now but I did enjoy the break away from work and hockey.
I’m still a little tired however, as I had to catch a bus at 5:20 in the morning yesterday to guarantee I’d get my flight. [...]

Recipe: Gourmet Lentil, Cheese and Mushroom Gratin

Inspired by Marget Fulton’s Lentil and Cheese Gratin, I decided that an extra ingredient would make this dish sublime. The photo in Margaret Fulton’s “Book of Vegetarian Cooking” book was gorgeous without any adaptions, but I just can’t help myself!

I served this vegetarian dish with roasted oregano potato wedges and steamed vegies (pictured [...]
