Not-so-likeable Vegetables

I have to say the results of this current poll have left me curious and confused. I was sure that I put the vegetables in that most would unlike, however there were so many responses to “other” that I’m quite interested to work out what is the vegetable you dislike the most.

Will did click other and posted the following on the previous poll that his least favourite vegetable is the bitter melon.

“Probably bitter melons! I’ll still eat them though.

My preferred way of eating them is pan fried mixed into eggs (mix sliced bitter melon in bowl with eggs, then fried), and that’s eaten with steamed rice. Prepared most other ways I tend to avoid it (if I can).”

Are your vegetables obscure?

My vegetable I cannot even put in my mouth is Cauliflower. I’ll leave the graphic details out of it, but, let’s just say, I cannot even think about it without getting the shivers!

Eggplant comes a close second, although I can manage to eat it - if I have to!

So, here’s your chance, post away what is your most disliked vegetable and why?

If you’re interested, here’s the results of the poll in question:

  • Other (58%)
  • Brussel Sprouts (17%)
  • Potato (8%)
  • Zucchini (8%)
  • Eggplant (8%)
  • Asparagus (0%)
  • Corn (0%)
  • Pumpkin (0%)
  • Squash (0%)
  • Carrot (0%)
  • Broccoli (0%)
  • Cauliflower (0%)

  • I just said “other” because I couldn’t really think of a vegetable I don’t like. Sometimes I don’t like artichoke hearts, but then sometimes I love them … I assume there’s a veg out there I don’t care for, but I haven’t found it yet!

  • Ah! I didn’t even think of that Jamie! So if like all vegetables is there anything you don’t like in fruits or other foods? Or you enjoy all foods!

I wish I was like that! I have my moments where I can’t eat quite a few vegetables.

  • My least favorite vegetable is celery. I can eat it… but I really don’t like it. I make an effort to like it– I buy it, but then it sits in my refrigerator and rots. :)

  • Ooh yeah Kate, I agree! Celery is something I endure in meals but avoid eating it with a dip - I stick with the carrots! I also avoid putting it in my soups, although I can handle using the celery seeds…have you used those before?

  • I’ve never used celery seeds– I should try them! What do you use them in?

  • You can use them in curries and soups. A lot of Indians put them in their curries and pickles.

If you can’t handle a lot of celery and a soup calls for it, you can use some of these ground up instead! It’s worth a go.
