Recipe: Spicy Vegan Sausages
Print This Post

When trying to come up with something for my dad’s party for myself to eat. I looked at some various vegan sites for ideas. I did look at the Vegan Ribs by Susan V as suggested by reader Jamie, however Julie Hasson’s sausages took my eye at the same time and I came up with a delicious adaption based on the same method.
After checking the current poll for the first few days and even now, I can tell this recipe will be a hit! Taking on a spicy flavour these sausages are great with a delicious quick handmade sauce, which I’ll post at a later date.
Whilst steaming these, I recommend using a Tefal-type multi-layer steamer similar to the Oster one from Amazon.com, but the Tefal is three layers. These work great for this being able to hold the whole lot of sausages in the one go!
Serves:
- makes 20 sausages
Ingredients:
- 2.5 tbs green masala paste
- 2 tsp garlic mince
- 4 tbs lemon juice
- 4 tbs soy sauce
- 1/4 tsp red chilli paste or sambal oelek
- 4 1/2 cups gluten flour
- 1 cup nutritional yeast
- 1/2 cup besan flour
- 2 tbs olive oil
- 4 1/2 cup water
Instructions:
- Mix all the dry ingredients together
- Combine the wet ingredients in, stirring until everything has mixed together and there’s no flour remnants left
- Grab half a cup of mixture and roll into a log on some foil, wrapping it up. Repeat until there’s no mixture left.
- Place all the sausages in foil into a steamer and cook for ten minutes
- Allow to cool before removing the foil and placing into the fridge for at least an hour
- Once your ready, grill the sausages on a pan with a little oil or on the bbq if you like or serve as is with some spicy sauce.

Very nice! That would make great fixings for skewers. You could also play with that recipe and make different flavours. Thanks for the recipe!

Thanks Nicole!
As I was making these, I was thinking exactly the same thing, chucking them on a skewer and placing them on a vegetarian/vegan barbie would be ideal!
