Wrapped Falafels

Kraft foods invited me into their Ambassador Program providing me with some of their new products called Vegie Pourovers.  They’re designed to assist parents with getting children to eat their vegetables.  I think they’ll be able to be used for other things such as sauces for lasagnes and dips for chips.

This recipe uses the chilli and sesame sauce for a sauce over the home made oven-baked falafels.  These have been made healthy by using absolutely no oil in the process and oven baking.

The wraps consist of a fairly basic salad, but you can add any ingredient you like to these and it would still be great!

Serves:

  • 17 falafel balls

Ingredients:

  • 400 gram can of organic chickpeas drained
  • 2 tsp garlic mince
  • 1/8 onion
  • 2 tbs fresh parsley
  • 2 tbs breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp cumin powder2 tbs fresh coriander
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 1 chilli
  • 2 tbs celery leaves
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tbs peanut oil
  • 1 tbs egg replacer or 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 2 tbs water
  • tortilla wraps
  • tomato, thinly sliced
  • mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • gourmet lettuce mix
  • 1 tbs Sweet Chilli & Sesame for each wrap

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. In a blender, place all the ingredients in, minus the egg replacer, 1 tbs breadcumbs and water.  Blend the ingredients until fully mixed.
  3. In two seperate bowls, drop the breadcrumbs in one and mix the egg replacer and water or egg in the other.
  4. With a tablespoon, scoop some of the mixture out and roll into a ball.
  5. Dunk the ball in the egg mixture and then roll in the breadcrumbs.
  6. Place on an oven tray and repeat with all the mixture - oil is optional but not required, as it doesn’t stick.
  7. Place in the oven for 30 minutes before turning over.
  8. Cook for another 30 minutes before resting for 2 minutes.
  9. Heat your tortilla wraps in the microwave for ten seconds.
  10. Layer the salad on the wrap, squash three falafels in and drizzle the pourover on.
  11. Wrap then serve!

  • I love Falafel! Never made it homemade. I will have to try your recipe. Thanks so much! :-)

  • Thanks Daelyn - it’s worth a try and it’s healthier than frying them too! Although, they can be fried if you’re not worried about the waistline! :D
