Vegetarian’s Mother nightmare

A “wellness” or health-conscious liquid drink that is not vegetarian? Who would’ve thought?
After needing a boost of energy, I thought I’d try my luck with the new Mother energy drink by Coca Cola. Just before opening it, I has an impulse to read the contents….Imagine my surprise to see a disclaimer of “Contains Fish Derivatives.”
I was lucky to be able to exchange it to my favourite energy drink, V!
So, can anyone out there explain to me why a drink needs animal bi-products?
Dear makers of Coca Cola,
You’ve lost one share of the market by including them!

Wow, fish derivatives is totally bizarre! I wonder what the reasoning behind that one is?
Guess we Vegetarians can never be too careful when it comes to checking out foods/drinks we assumed would be Veg friendly.

I know! I was certainly shocked seeing it on the list of ingredients. I would have thought a health drink would be totally natural with no drinks including any animal bi-products.

Reminds me of the time my mum brought home some instant miso soup that they had leftover from her volunteer work at the local Community Centre.
Normally we just buy Miso paste from the asian grocers so it was a little unexpected when I read the packet and saw it had some “fish extracts” (or something similar). My mum actually uses either miso paste or vegemite in place of salt for some of her soups. She’ll pick the Miso or Vegemite depending on the type of soup being made. Though, the soups in my family are the Chinese type (due to my Chinese heritage).

I’m always a bit cautious with Asian foods, saying that though, they have the best mock meat available – so many varieties!
